We will do this today in our after-school program, and send you our helping hands from both staff and students. Our students, mostly middle-schoolers, have wanted so much to help - being able to do this will them as much as it will help Newtown. Our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you.

Hi, my oldest was born in Newtown and still having friends in Sandy Hook, I still have a special connection there. I am trying to get this started at my youngest daughters school in Torrington and I have offered to run this at her school and deliver them to you as well as volunteer to help string them up. What a fabulous idea!

I am a mother of a 13yr old girl and a 8 yr old boy who attend Carrollton Schools. I am going there today to talk to the principal to see about getting the entire school involved in the Helping hands project. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families. As a parent i am numb to what's happened. I cry every time i watch the news.

I think this is a wonderful way to help the children at Sandy Hook heal. Let them know they have children everywhere to support them. Will be taking this to my daughters school and sending our support.. You are all in our prayers.

I found out this afternoon that I am not allowed to do this bc it is up to the individual parent to let their kids know and all of them might not know. I understand a little but I thought it was an awesome idea!

I am not sure if our school will allow it either, however I plan on having my kids and others make helping hands. I am sure they would not be turned away!

I would hope the school would allow it just as a "project". That way it could be more like a "Sister City" type thing and nothing really needs to be explained unless the parents wanted to telll their own children. Bless you for your effort ;-)

i heard about this site on tv this morning, and immediately got on the web site and printed a copy to take to our little elementary school today ! this is a great idea .my thoughts and prayers go to the little children and the adults who were killed friday morning. i wish there was more i could do , but doing this has made me feel a little better. I am a chaplain at a senior living community and am wondering if we could send our hands too? We are all children at heart and perhaps it would be helpful to have a few bigger hands expressing caring support as well, or perhaps for the employee areas to let staff know they are not alonel? I am a school social worker with special needs children. Although they do not understand what happened at the school, we have been focusing alot on "helping" as part of our anti bullying program. I've shared this on my facebook page, hoping that others will do the same. I also got approval to do this project with the TK classes at my son's school (46 kids), and asked the principal to please circulate the information to the rest of the classes. I'll be doing the handprints with the kids on friday and mailing them in as soon as I can. Is there a cutoff date? (I ask because I might not be able to pick them up until January because I'll have to wait for the paint to dry). BTW, these hands will all be coming from California.

Hi All! I think that this is a lovely idea, and my prayers are with the families of EACH of the children at the school. One suggestion, an index card would have enough room for smaller hand prints, and using an index card would leave more room for all of the other prints that will come flooding in. Hello to all! I love the idea and I will be working on this project tomorrow wiht my 4th graders, I spoke to them about it today and they felt excited about being able to send out some love and care from our hearts! I am not sure if this was already asked or posted somewhere and I missed it, but where should I send the hands out to? Ideally we would like to have these ready for the day students return, which is after New Year's. If you are unable to get them out early enough we will find a way to replenish hands as they come in.

I saw this on CBS morning News this morning and I knew I had to do something, So sent this to my 7 yr's. teacher and tomorrow her along with other classes here in Albany Wi. will be making hands to send to you.WE may not be the biggest school for we are located in a small farming community but we have love and compassion. When I received the email from my son's teacher she had told me that our school wanted to do something but was not sure what then she read my email and it went from there. I have also posted the link on my FB page as well asking all of my friends to send in hands. I hope that the students, teachers and everyone will see and feel the love from all over.

Our prayers are with all of you now and in the future. I lost a love one to (mental illness & a gun). As a former teacher we need to work on helping our special needs students more. Schools and families can't do it alone. I know your school teachers & staff did everything they could to protect everyone. They are great!!! God Bless.

This seems like a perfect idea to show the kids that people all over the world are sending them love. I was just wondering if you are working together with the "snowflake" people? I have an Advisory day (character education) tomorrow with my middle school kids and wanted to have them send something to your kids. So I don't know what to do flakes or hands ... I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. May end up doing both ...lol.. They need the flakes by Jan. 12th and you want them the day after New Years .. maybe your first ... Just know that Jersey is full of love and ready to send it your way <3

I am an art teacher and I love this idea...my concern is that you might end up with more hands than you can manage. Keep us posted, Don't be shy about "calling off" the project when it gets to be "hand-mania." You might consider posting a deadline to receive hands to help with crowd control....and to give it a "stop point"- The reason this is going to be so successful is not only because we are reaching out to Newtown---but the creation of those hands will heal US as well. I am doing this with my high school kids----and they are going to make the most beautiful hands you have ever laid your eyes on, but I don't want this project to become a burden if you become overwhelmed with mail. :)

I am the librarian of a high school in the Outer Banks of NC! We couldn't wait to help! I had teachers bring their kids down in waves all of yesterday and I now have several hundred handprints to send! My kids were overjoyed that they could help in any way possible! Some are elaborate with paints and feathers and some are just with colored pencils but they are all beautiful and will hopefully bring joy to the hallways!

This tragedy has affected every person deeply, parent or not. We are a small school in Boswell, IN. Preschool-6 approximately 175 students. Most if not all did not think twice about doing this, and some are also doing the snowflakes. Everyone is helpless to do something (other than pray) and this helps to fill that void. Prayers to you all.

Hi..I'm a teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden, but I live in Southbury. Our students made the green and white hands, and I'd be happy to deliver them to you in Newtown so you won't have to drive to Meriden. Today is Friday, Dec. 21, and I'll bring the hands home with me. Every classroom in our school participated in this project (pre-k-5). Teachers painted students hands in either green or yellow (our school colors) and let them dry. We then allowed students to decorate how they wish. I emailed you tonight to set up a deliver for tomorrow. We sending love, pray, and well wishes from Salisbury, North Carolina.

I am a office support specialist at Turn of River Middle School in Stamford, CT. Our school created several snowflakes for the students and staff for the temporary school in Monroe. At our school we have the Rachel's Challenge Program which is a creation of the Rachel Joy Scott Family. Rachel was the first victim in the Columbine tragedy in 1999. Her vision and inspiration was to be kind to others and to give to your community. This has become a large part of our school and Stamford community. We want to let all of you know we are here for you, love you, support you and are here to help in anyway we can. Handprints are a large part of Rachels Challenge as it brings us all together. We have also sent cards to Pastor Kathie and her son who were first responders on that treadful day in Newtown.
