Lisa - what a great idea! Thanks for coordinating and offering the opportunity for so many of to lend a hand from a distance.
You can count on me for sharing your site and the idea with friends, many of whom are teachers around the US.
Please keep us updated with how things go and know that there are many around the US thinking of your town and this horrific tragedy.
God Bless You All!
You might want to remove this post after its read. There is a spelling error on the homepage: "Your are loved"
What a wonderful idea. I've shared it with everyone I know. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Thank you for the note! I want to leave your post because you're great.
We will do this today in our after-school program, and send you our helping hands from both staff and students. Our students, mostly middle-schoolers, have wanted so much to help - being able to do this will them as much as it will help Newtown. Our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you.
Hi, my oldest was born in Newtown and still having friends in Sandy Hook, I still have a special connection there. I am trying to get this started at my youngest daughters school in Torrington and I have offered to run this at her school and deliver them to you as well as volunteer to help string them up. What a fabulous idea!
I am a mother of a 13yr old girl and a 8 yr old boy who attend Carrollton Schools. I am going there today to talk to the principal to see about getting the entire school involved in the Helping hands project. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families. As a parent i am numb to what's happened. I cry every time i watch the news.
I think this is a wonderful way to help the children at Sandy Hook heal. Let them know they have children everywhere to support them. Will be taking this to my daughters school and sending our support.. You are all in our prayers.
I am working on getting this together for my daughter's class. I think it is an awesome idea. We're in Ohio. Prayers to you all!
I found out this afternoon that I am not allowed to do this bc it is up to the individual parent to let their kids know and all of them might not know. I understand a little but I thought it was an awesome idea!
It's understandable. This project may not be right for some schools or for certain age groups who don't (and shouldn't) understand what has happened. Thank you for your support!
I am not sure if our school will allow it either, however I plan on having my kids and others make helping hands. I am sure they would not be turned away!
I would hope the school would allow it just as a "project". That way it could be more like a "Sister City" type thing and nothing really needs to be explained unless the parents wanted to telll their own children. Bless you for your effort ;-)
Please foregive me, this is---Just the Facts--- reason our son's parents have choosen homeschooling. The way the school system here ambushed our family- the tears are here for your FAMILYS---I hope your recieve many hugs--.
We want to know WHY---not Where the blame go's---
I have asked his homeroom teacher what chain of commade(spellin') we need to do, to help.
I can see Jesus arms open wide.
We will begin our project right away. Teachers' hearts in Nebraska ache for all of you. May you and the students find some small comfort in knowing you are loved and prayed for.
This is a wonderful idea!!!! I will be having my sons Cub Scouts Pack do this at their Christmas Party!!!! They range from grade 1st-5th and would love to do something!!!
this is great. thank you for providing the rest of us with a way to show our love and support.
i heard about this site on tv this morning, and immediately got on the web site and printed a copy to take to our little elementary school today ! this is a great idea .my thoughts and prayers go to the little children and the adults who were killed friday morning. i wish there was more i could do , but doing this has made me feel a little better. LOVE TO ALL IN NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT.GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
I am a chaplain at a senior living community and am wondering if we could send our hands too? We are all children at heart and perhaps it would be helpful to have a few bigger hands expressing caring support as well, or perhaps for the employee areas to let staff know they are not alonel? Send me an email if you'd rather we not. Prayers for all of you.....
Thank you, Ruth! We would love your senior living community to participate!
How can I share this on facebook?
Just cut and paste the web address to Facebook and the site should be linked.
Thank you for sharing!
I am a school social worker with special needs children. Although they do not understand what happened at the school, we have been focusing alot on "helping" as part of our anti bullying program. We will be completing this project as a school and sending it to you. Thank you for what you have organized
From a former first grade teacher and a mother of 2 boys, my heart, and I know I can speak for everyone in our town, is broken for what you are going through. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends that are suffering the loss of their loved ones. Praying God's love and peace will wrap each and everyone of you. From Fort Payne, Alabama we send our love, prayers, and support. God Bless you All.
This is such a Great idea, Thanks for sharing
I would like for our family to do this, I hope that is ok. We are just at a loss of what to do for you folks
It's more than ok. Thank you!
My heart and prayers are with this brave community. I am going to e-mail all my friends at the local schools to do this. What a great idea to get the children involved and able to do something in a special way. Bless you all.
Awesome. Thank you for letting us know there is a way we can help. I am Tweeting and Facebooking away. MUCH LOVE and gratitude for all teachers everywhere.
I work in a small business in Missouri. We would love to ask our customers to take part in this. Would you take our hands?
Of course! Thank you!
What a beautiful way to reach out.
Hello, this is amazing, we saw it on the news, trying so hard to figure out as a mother of a Kindergartner and former pre-school teacher, how we can help....this is great. Thank you.
I've shared this on my facebook page, hoping that others will do the same. I also got approval to do this project with the TK classes at my son's school (46 kids), and asked the principal to please circulate the information to the rest of the classes. I'll be doing the handprints with the kids on friday and mailing them in as soon as I can. Is there a cutoff date? (I ask because I might not be able to pick them up until January because I'll have to wait for the paint to dry). BTW, these hands will all be coming from California.
The sharing icons on the very top right of the page are not linked. I hope you can fix that so it is easy for people to share.
Hi All! I think that this is a lovely idea, and my prayers are with the families of EACH of the children at the school. One suggestion, an index card would have enough room for smaller hand prints, and using an index card would leave more room for all of the other prints that will come flooding in. God speed to PEACE, RECOVERY, COMFORT, and HAPPINESS!
This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
I am going to try to gather some "hands" from my Maryland community. Do you know approximately when you hope to start putting them up at Chalk Hill?
Students will return after New Year's. We plan to get our hands together before then. Ideally schools should try to get these done in the next few days since most schools will go on break on Friday.
The children of the Adventure Club in Webster Groves, MO are looking forward to lending their hands to the cause!
I have a little boy who is 5 and i would love for him to do this is it ok if him and i send our hands? It won't be from a school just our home.
Thank you so much for organizing this. My first graders and I did this today! I shared the information with the rest of our school. Many other classes are doing this project as well.
Peace and Grace.
Hello to all! I love the idea and I will be working on this project tomorrow wiht my 4th graders, I spoke to them about it today and they felt excited about being able to send out some love and care from our hearts! I am not sure if this was already asked or posted somewhere and I missed it, but where should I send the hands out to? Thank you very much in sharing this with so many, being that we are in Philadelphia means a lot to us that we could show solidarism with our neighbor city.
The address is at the bottom of the homepage :)
69 Osborne Hill Rd
Sandy Hook, CT
Thank you for this beautiful opportunity! My elementary art students here in SD are feeling a great need to reach out to their peers in CT. We will be sending our heARTful hands to you. Peace to you all...
just a question.....do you want hand-shapes or a full page w/a handprint on it?
Students can either trace their hand and decorate or do an actual hand print on a full page. They should include their name, city and school. Thanks!
We are more than happy to be included in this project. Our hearts ache for the children, parents, families, school employees, and community of Sandy Hook, Connecticut. God bless every one of you. He will wrap His arms around you and hold you up. We are praying for you.
Is there a date you would like them by...our school goes on break on Friday, so we may not get them mailed until after the holidays. Would that be ok?
Ideally we would like to have these ready for the day students return, which is after New Year's. If you are unable to get them out early enough we will find a way to replenish hands as they come in.
My child has been asking how we can show our support for the kids and this is an excellent answer. The media outlet I work for posted your website on theirs and I'll share on social media. I've asked my child's school to take part as well. Much love from Alaska!
This is a beautiful way for children and teens to show their support. Our Cadette Girl Scout Troop will work on this project at our Christmas party this week. Thank you for this heartfelt opportunity! Big hugs from Texas!
I shared this on my facebook page thank you for giving us all a chance to show we are thinking of you and praying for you. I am a grandmother of 10 the oldest being only 13. God bless all of you
I saw this on CBS morning News this morning and I knew I had to do something, So sent this to my 7 yr's. teacher and tomorrow her along with other classes here in Albany Wi. will be making hands to send to you.WE may not be the biggest school for we are located in a small farming community but we have love and compassion. When I received the email from my son's teacher she had told me that our school wanted to do something but was not sure what then she read my email and it went from there. I have also posted the link on my FB page as well asking all of my friends to send in hands. I hope that the students, teachers and everyone will see and feel the love from all over.
Thanks to ALL who have shared and posted! Can't wait to get your helping hands together. A plan for sharing them with the students of SHES is in the works!
What a wonderful ideal!! I have been praying constantly for your entire city and I am happy to lend my hand....even my heart! I am a room mom to a 6 year old little girl. This will be one of the most important valuable life lessons on helping others in need. We, at Ezell Harding Christian School, in Nashville, TN, is praying....always....
I saw this on the early show and LOVED the idea. I emailed the link to two of my children's teachers, but our school district is going to be out for holiday break noon today until the 7th of Jan :(
My heart goes out to your community! I was at a loss for words when I heard of the tragedy, and was in tears as a mother of a 3 elementary school age children. I know our school district has ya'll in our thoughts and prayers, flags flying at half staff...Nashville, Tn
Thank you for sharing a way for us to show our love from a distance. This will be a powerful visual for your precious students.
Heard about this on CBS news this morning and shared the information on my Facebook page. I hope this is publicize a lot more and that the kid's new school is overwhelmed with helping hands from across the U.S. Our love goes out to the children, families, teachers, and entire Newtown community.
Hi, Awesome idea!
.....I hope to have my local school give their hands I'm trying to mobilize the teachers now. Green Town New Jersey sends their love.
I am so happy. That you. Are doing this. I just got my son school. To do it we are going to do it on Friday. We are in CT
Hi, when are you hoping to receive these by? What a great idea, thank you for giving us a way to help.
Great idea! Our school here in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada will be joining this project. This event effects us all, far and wide, and we were looking for a way to try and help.
Such a beautiful idea! My daughter's Girl Scout troop will send in their hands. Also -- my husband's company could print a banner, one that can withstand the elements, with your beautiful words. Would that be helpful so you don't have to make/purchase a poster?
That would be amazing! Thank you to you and your family!
Our prayers are with all of you now and in the future. I lost a love one to (mental illness & a gun). As a former teacher we need to work on helping our special needs students more. Schools and families can't do it alone. I know your school teachers & staff did everything they could to protect everyone. They are great!!! God Bless.
Our school is out for break, and I have passed this along so they will recieve it when they return. In the mean time, our company and the 90 employees we have, will be making handprints for your effort. What a beautiful idea. We are praying for all in your community
I will be sharing this with our after school program in Amity Oregon and also presenting it to our APaTT board members. It is a great way for us to show our support from the west coast! I just can't find the words, so hopefully our helping hands will show the love and support from across America!
I have posted this via my FB page and have a great response! Please let me know when these are needed back to you!
My students are completing their prints and soooo much appreciated the opportunity to support the children of Newtown. We will be sending them up from New Haven soon! God Bless you all!
Hi HH : ) I am a teacher in NJ who thinks this is an amazing idea. I found you by way of the "snow flake" page. I wouldn't have even seen you if I didn't scroll down. I am glad I did. This seems like a perfect idea to show the kids that people all over the world are sending them love. I was just wondering if you are working together with the "snowflake" people? I have an Advisory day (character education) tomorrow with my middle school kids and wanted to have them send something to your kids. So I don't know what to do flakes or hands ... I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. May end up doing both ...lol.. They need the flakes by Jan. 12th and you want them the day after New Years .. maybe your first ... Just know that Jersey is full of love and ready to send it your way <3
Hi New Jersey,
Thank you so much for your note and your help! Please don't feel like you are choosing or letting anyone down. I think that both of these projects are great ways for you and your community to express your support and deal with your own grief. I encourage you to do whatever project works for you and know that our entire community appreciates your support.
My sons Cub Scout Pack (grades 1st- 5th) just made their hands tonight at their Christmas party!! We got the school to also do it with is so I will be picking all of them up Fri and sending all of them to you by the weekend!!! This was such a wonderful idea

Wondering if you need help hanging these up once approved? I work in a small school with about 40 people, and I know we could gather a big group and come help you hang? We are in the boston area. If so contact me! Tricia9283@yahoo.com
I am setting up volunteer schedules for stringing hands next week. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much!
I will be sending out your message to the 13,000 teachers in Hawaii..thank you for letting all of us have a voice in showing how much we are supporting all the children, families and school staff..we love you all..we respect all of you...you are all angels and heros...much aloha...Karen
I am an art teacher and I love this idea...my concern is that you might end up with more hands than you can manage. Keep us posted, Don't be shy about "calling off" the project when it gets to be "hand-mania." You might consider posting a deadline to receive hands to help with crowd control....and to give it a "stop point"- The reason this is going to be so successful is not only because we are reaching out to Newtown---but the creation of those hands will heal US as well. I am doing this with my high school kids----and they are going to make the most beautiful hands you have ever laid your eyes on, but I don't want this project to become a burden if you become overwhelmed with mail. :)
I am a 5th grade teacher in Northbridge, MA. My 5th grade students spear headed a team wide campaign this week to participate in Helping Hands. You will be getting about 250 loving, caring and empathetic hands from us. Great idea!
I am the librarian of a high school in the Outer Banks of NC! We couldn't wait to help! I had teachers bring their kids down in waves all of yesterday and I now have several hundred handprints to send! My kids were overjoyed that they could help in any way possible! Some are elaborate with paints and feathers and some are just with colored pencils but they are all beautiful and will hopefully bring joy to the hallways!
Curious Cup, a lovely children's book shop in Carpinteria, California, will be a gathering point for people who want to come in and make their handprints to share. Our thoughts and hearts are with you - as teachers, parents, friends, we grieve also.
This tragedy has affected every person deeply, parent or not. We are a small school in Boswell, IN. Preschool-6 approximately 175 students. Most if not all did not think twice about doing this, and some are also doing the snowflakes. Everyone is helpless to do something (other than pray) and this helps to fill that void. Prayers to you all.
Hi..I'm a teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden, but I live in Southbury. Our students made the green and white hands, and I'd be happy to deliver them to you in Newtown so you won't have to drive to Meriden. Today is Friday, Dec. 21, and I'll bring the hands home with me. I'm available during vacation to deliver the hands, or have you pick them up at my home. Please email me to decide how we can get together. Thanks, and please know we're all thinking of you.
My children and I got my children's school to do this project. I am mailing it out today. This was a great idea!!! I am glad our school could be apart of trying to make the children feel loved and safe. Our hearts go out to everyone in Newtown.
At our middle school, many students traced their hand and decorated it. I hope that's okay. Lots of loving thoughts were sent along with their prints. Thank you for this opportunity for us all to reach out. Peace and joy to you all.
Every classroom in our school participated in this project (pre-k-5). Teachers painted students hands in either green or yellow (our school colors) and let them dry. We then allowed students to decorate how they wish. I emailed you tonight to set up a deliver for tomorrow. We sending love, pray, and well wishes from Salisbury, North Carolina.
I will be dropping hands off tomorrow at the address at the bottom of the page. Hope that is ok. Please let me know when is a good time to drop it off.
I am a office support specialist at Turn of River Middle School in Stamford, CT. Our school created several snowflakes for the students and staff for the temporary school in Monroe. At our school we have the Rachel's Challenge Program which is a creation of the Rachel Joy Scott Family. Rachel was the first victim in the Columbine tragedy in 1999. Her vision and inspiration was to be kind to others and to give to your community. This has become a large part of our school and Stamford community. We want to let all of you know we are here for you, love you, support you and are here to help in anyway we can. Handprints are a large part of Rachels Challenge as it brings us all together. We have also sent cards to Pastor Kathie and her son who were first responders on that treadful day in Newtown. We hope the snowflakes help your community and please reach out if there is anything else we can do. All our best, Turn of River Middle School
I work in a small primary school in England and we were going to get the children creating hands as soon as they get back tomorrow, but now see you are wrapped up :-( Sorry we weren't in school at the right time. Please let me know if there is any other way to send support.
Thanks so much for your support! WE are not accepting any more hands at this time. The school's halls are full and we've dropped off hands at most local Sandy Hook Businesses. My suggestion is to decorate a section of your own school in honor of Sandy Hook and send me the photos. I'd be happy to share online!
I would still let your children participate! I believe if the hands are sent in, they will be used! My daughter's 2nd grade class all did hands and then they laminated them so they could be put up indoor or outdoor. I think the kids can use all the support they can get and I believe it would be very cool to see that even people overseas are thinking of them =)
My high school art classes started their hands for this project right before our Christmas break, we returned to school this week, Jan. 7th and now see your address is gone from the home page to mail them. The students really want these hands to go to you....Can we still send them?
This excellent website really has all of the information and facts I wanted about this subject and didn't know who to ask.
This page was created by the teachers who grew up in Newtown.
